Hansel Und Gretel

For days they were together, left alone, not in a forest but in a waste land beneath a tree of a hospital. They were so thin, so small. How they managed to eat, drink and sleep, I don’t know. Every day when on duty in the hospital I took some food and milk for them, How eagerly they ate and drank.

I wish I could take them home but we already had a foundling. But when I decided to take them home, they were gone. I, we all who went together felt bad in the car. Before driving for home we suggested to just try again almost with no hope.

How we rejoiced as we found them still there.

I tried to find some one who would take care of them. But when I told them that Hansel is crippled and about Gretel’s itch and asthma they refused to take them, perhaps they’re business people. “What if they couldn’t be sold?” they thought.

As I now think I’m so glad that they were rejected, otherwise … What if they took Gretel only or Hansel only. It would be cruel to separate them as they so love each other and always huddle, play, sleep together in my bed.

And I thought of the orphans of wars, brothers and sisters separated from each other or from a mother when taken in families abroad and of slaves in former times when they were captured and sold.

Hansel isn’t crippled anymore and walks, runs, jumps on all four, though sees with squinting eyes. Perhaps he’s got a violent beating on his head before and Gretel –she was near death, yet, thanks God, survived, three, four times revived by artificial respiration during a surgery - is a cute, funny, lively creature.

I’ll never give them away, even when I have to go abroad.

Shadow Play On The Water

Watch the beautiful shadow play of a plant, a flower on the wall. This is a shadow play on the water.

Ants Running On A Wire

Without eyes they know the path each ant would follow. They find their nest and do not  go astray. Ants prey, hunt after a cripled insect, climb up a tree, run, cross each other on a stretched wire in opposite directions high up above without fear of falling.

There was once a war between small ants against giant ants that occupied a bush. The small ants endlessly came one by one to attack. When hurt it would run back while another one was coming on. When a small ant succeeds to bite a feet of the giant, he would be beheaded by the giant one. The body falls but the head keeps still hanging on the giant’s feet, until the surface of the earth was  sowed with little ants bodies, while the air was filled with an ant’s smell.

At long last, the last giant ant falls but the bush was not occupied by the small ants.

Watch For A Chance To Capture A Bird

And there's that little bird, so frustrating, furiously flying against the windowpane of a parked car in the garden, again and again. Is she attacking her opponent mirrored on it? It would make a nice, unusual video of the bird. But I couldn't capture her with my camera as when I go outside from my room she flies away. 

Certainly, there're no two happenings, occurences would, could ever be exactly the same. This chance might be for ever lost.  But I just am lucky as the little bird came again the next day. From behind the glass window-pane now I aimed -- she is so very small - zoomed in and recorded. A bit blurred, but never mind.

And here she is, sure not a dazzling colored proud peacock. I couldn't  get a sharp, clear  picture of her with my digital pocket camera, yet am I so happy as she's alive in You Tube now and for ever.

The Swallows

I aimed at the flying swallows but to my distress I couldn’t almost see anything of them except my face mirrored, hindering me on the screen of my digital pocket camera. I aimed at the sky at random, zoomed in, zoomed out again and I felt wretched. I opened it in my computer. The swallows that I captured were flying so fast and there were a lot of blank spots without a swallow.

But as I found a very short beautiful recording of the birds, I thought I could still make me a nice video for You Tube. I slowed down its speed, lengthened by doubling the recording and I saw a beautiful view of flying swallows through a frame, more fascinating than seeing them actually live, flying in the open air. Besides, I’ll make me some beautiful snapshots out of it for my ‘chewspictures’ blog.And as it’s that good, I owe this to the very smart digital pocket camera and Windows Live Movie Maker.

By singing the solo parts together we got a beautiful warm-up exercize. This line is of the Ave Maria of Mascagni. Any other beautiful line of music would do, step by step upwards and downwards and we got a very beautiful warm up practise.

I am so happy as I now succeed to preserve, save, rescue my old audio CD’s without shooting, re-editing them again and upload them to You Tube. Otherwise I would lose them forever.

I have to overcome a lot of difficulties, tedious work which I willingly, patiently would do, such as knowing how to copy the CD to the computer, then one by one so tediously write the titles, otherwise you have no way which music you want to upload. Then pick up (browse) a suitable picture for the “Windows Live Movie Maker” to edit, then “add music”, that is tricking the Movie Maker into editing my  audio CD - while it is refusing to edit my DVD and VCD - and search for the title of music you want to upload.

That’s easy enough, but now you must see to it that picture playing time, match music playing time.

But you can also take a video instead of a picture and so make a more fascinating video, with music and bird’s sounds for instance.

There’s a lot of fascinating movie making in store for me. This is an early version which I managed to turn out.

Lovely Sights

Seeing the “rambutan Aceh Lebak” tree with plenty of colorful fruits, abundant as bougainville flowers. Seeing lake Pamulang rippling as a beautiful giant carpet. Seeing storks slowly sailing by, high up in the sky. Looking at the full moon from below a tamarind tree, .. Suppose I were an artist, I’d like to paint them.

Happy to be welcomed by hundreds, thousands crème-colored wild flowers along the path-way. How pure, how fair, how fresh as a glorious morning. I name it the “Morning Glory” of Indonesia,

Yet, lovelier is the flower I met on the hill in Cinangka. Greeted with a charming smile as in a dream. Not dressed as stewardess, not educated as university student, not as Mona Lisa in a frame, not sitting in a luxurious Mercy, bare footed, without slippers, no make-up and just living in a bamboo hut. That’s, Eve, as jamu (bitter-sweet-hot drinks) vendor.

As a lotus flower in muddy waters, Eve is the most lovely, charming sight.
